Environmental Investigative Agency has released a new report, Crude Lies, detailing a major investigation exposing environmental and human rights abuses by Ecopetrol, Colombia’s largest oil company. The investigation, supported by Earthworks, revealed illegal methane emissions, toxic water pollution, and intimidation of local communities.
To hold Ecopetrol accountable, EIA launched the Iguana Papers, an open database where anyone can explore the evidence. The BBC also released a documentary based on EIA’s findings, detailing how oil spills have harmed Colombia’s environment, biodiversity and local communities.
