Letter From the President
Dear Colleagues, Friends and Partners,
Welcome to The Overbrook Foundation and our refreshed website. In this our 75th year, The Overbrook Foundation’s mission is squarely focused on the central challenges of our time, including an eroding natural environment and an unprecedented challenge to human rights and American democracy.
At our founding in 1948 Helen and Frank Altschul made an important commitment of direct philanthropic capital to leaders, organizations, and causes that needed investment, beyond public dollars, to make an impact. That tradition continues today and is managed by a committed Board of Directors who are the champions of Overbrook’s unique approach and long-term commitment to our programmatic partners.
At the center of Overbrook’s model is our commitment to partnership with over 80 inspired organizations that lead programming, advocacy, and policy agendas in our focused areas of investment. This site is in many ways a celebration of that partnership and highlights a collection of bold leadership models that yield results and help movements grow. Alongside our grantees, Overbrook is led by a small but mighty team of program and nonprofit leaders who are, along with our grantees, at the center of the fight for progress. As a small family foundation, our team believes in the power of philanthropy, and alongside critical support via grants, we partner with our grantees and industry leaders to advance the issues that are central to our mission and take an active role in building the organizations that are our partners.
At the center of Overbrook’s model is our commitment to partnership with over 80 inspired organizations.
At this moment in history leadership counts more than ever, and with my colleagues and the Overbrook Board of Directors, we take on that charge with humility and great expectation. As you explore this site, please contact us with questions, motivation, and ideas for engagement and partnership. We spend our days searching for bold, innovative, measurable efforts that can change the landscape, and at our core are ready to listen and collaborate with leaders from all walks.
Thanks for your interest, and in partnership,
Eric Weingartner
